Meanwhile… 001
Growing up, I adored drawing because it was a means of filtering out all else or at least dulling it while my attention was on the paper. It makes sense now, but among numerous things I drew often (including themes that included masks) one of them was often eyes.
This first instalment is in some ways a reflection of my own journey in that, but also that of others. It represents a child literally drawn into their own world they can control, while also depicting the exact thing that they shun, which is the scrutiny of others, depicted as an eye greater than the sum of each individual page that makes it in whole.
The aspect of the child marking a "You are here" map-reference point within the veins of the eye, is indicative of the child making that same observer (us) a small thing that they have control over, while also inviting them into that world they've created, but clearly on their own terms.
